Young Harris Shutout Lady Canes

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- Conference foe Young Harris scored four goals in the first half in route to a 5-0 victory over the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team this afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

GSW battled tough throughout the day, Alison Rugel, Leila Hamed and Emily Collum all served shots for the Lady Canes, as Rugel and Hamed were the only players who got a shot on goal. Goalkeepers Alina Rodriguez and Hannah Morrone combined for 20 saves in the net for GSW. 

The Mountain Lions (4-5, 2-3 PBC) took control of the first half, as Elin Pederson scored in the 10th minute with an assist from Lailah Muscat. Ten minutes later, Pederson assisted Britt Verstegen for another goal, going up 2-0. In the 28th minute, Baylee Roche, who also scored their lone second half goal in the 71st minute, was assisted by Verstegen to push the score up 3-0 before Coleen Johnson scored in the 40th minute, going into halftime up 4-0. 

The Lady Canes (2-9, 0-5 PBC) had three total shots throughout the game as the Mountain Lions served 47 shots and 27 shots on goal. Young Harris also led with a total of 12 corner kicks as GSW had zero.
