Badgers Defense Holds GSW To 2-1 Win

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Freshman forward Payton Johnson scored her first collegiate goal of her career, putting up the sole goal for the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team as they were defeated 2-1 by the visiting Spring Hill Badgers Saturday night.

In the second half, Johnson received a pass from Alison Rugel and scored from 20 yards out as her shot slipped right out of the Badger's goalkeeper hands for a GSW score in the 55th minute to cut the score in half. GSW took a total of eight second half shots but only one landed in the goal as the Badgers defense stood strong.

Spring Hill started scoring early as both goals came in the first half. Twelve minutes in, Carson Reeves shot one through the back of the net to put her team up 1-0. In the 40th minute, Olivia Odimegwu kicked one across the body into the upper left side of the net as SHC (1-2) took a 2-0 lead.

Johnson led GSW (1-2) in both shots and shots on goal as she ended with three on the night. Michelle Gustavsen, Alisa Barr and Rugel all added a pair of shots for the Lady Hurricanes as they outshot the Badgers 13-9. SHC ended the night with an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks as they also led with more shots on goal (6-3) than GSW.

Hannah Morrone capped the night with four saves while the Badger's goalkeeper, Kira Babiarz finished with two.

The past three consecutive matches between the Lady Hurricanes and the Badgers have each been decided by one goal and won by the visiting team.
