No. 4 Flagler Runs Off With A 7-1 Victory

AMERICUS, Ga. -- In the 40th minute, Georgia Southwestern women's soccer player Payton Johnson found a free ball behind No. 4 Flagler College defense to tie the game at 1-1. Unfortunately, the Saints used a huge second-half, where they scored five goals to win, 7-1, in a Peach Belt Conference match on Hurricane Field Wednesday night.

On Johnson's goal, Flager's goalkeeper jumped up and tipped the ball in effort to stop it, but instead, the ball rolled back and bounced into the net for Johnson's fourth goal of the season. Johnson led GSW (3-10-1, 0-7 PBC) with four of their six shots, followed by three shots on goal. Eduarda Giusti and Laura Duran Blanco were the other shot takers on the night for the Hurricanes.

Flager (12-0, 7-0 PBC) was led by Sara Sandberg, Annie Habeeb and Liz Hall, who all had two goals each. Sandberg had five shots with two assists while Habeeb took four shots on the night. Charlene Nowotny led the Saints with three assists. Sanberg put the Saints on the board first in the 7th minute with a quick score but shortly after, the Lady Hurricanes tied the score. FC took a 2-1 advantage going into halftime when Sandberg found the back of the net again off a blocked shot. The Saints came out of halftime with full control as they remain unbeaten on the season.

The Saints ended with a 28-6 advantage on shots, followed by a 11-5 advantage with shots landing on goal. Flagler also got more corner kicks (10-1) over GSW but both teams ended with four saves on the night.

Up Next: GSW will travel up north as they will play UNC Pembroke for an early 11 a.m. PBC match on Saturday, Oct. 26.
