Cougars Take Home Finale Over Lady Hurricanes, 4-0

AMERICUS, Ga. -- On what would be their last home game played this 2019 season, the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team fell, 4-0, to Peach Belt Conference foe Columbus State in a midweek rematch game on Hurricane Field Wednesday evening. 

The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 30, but due to inclement weather and an unsafe playing field, the two teams elected to postpone the game to today where both teams were off. 

Only leading 1-0 at the half, the Cougars had full control of the game from start to finish. At the end of the first 45 minutes, Clayton St. (12-6, 7-4 PBC) put up a total of 14 shots compared to GSW's zero. They ended the game scoring three goals off seven shots as they finished with a 21-2 shot advantage. 

In the second half, Payton Johnson let off a long shot that landed to the right of the goal for one GSW's (3-12-2, 0-9-1 PBC) two shots followed by a header by Emily Collum, that sailed too high. Hannah Morrone finished with five saves. 

The Cougars were led by Riley Clark, Kimmy Edgeworth and Carley Canzoneri, who all had three shots each. They landed nine shots on goal as Clark and Brooke Ouimette, who scored two second-half goals, led the team with two shots on goal each. 

Up Next: The Lady Hurricanes will close their season on the road in South Carolina as they will play Lander on Saturday, Nov. 9 for a 7 p.m. match start.
