Lady Hurricanes End Season With Loss

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Payton Johnson led the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team with all three shots as the Lady Hurricanes ended their season, losing 8-0 to Lander University Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium. 

Johnson accounted for all of GSW's (3-13-2, 0-10-1 PBC) shots, including their sole shot on goal to cap the season. 

Lander put up three first-half goals, followed by five in the second half to leave GSW blank in their season finale. Lander's Brianna Taylor led them with three goals, as she scored the first two within 12 minutes of eachother in the first half. She capped the hat trick with her seventh goal of the season in the 59th minute. Emily Jernstad led with seven shots, as she also added two goals followed by Kaitlyn Anderson, who finished with two goals herself. 

Hannah Morrone finished with four saves, playing the full 90 minutes in front of a Bearcat crowd of over 250 people. 

Johnson finished the season leading the Lady Hurricanes with 10 points, capping her freshman year with four goals and two assists. Alison Rugel added eight points herself, scoring two goals while adding five assists to cap her senior season at GSW. Eduarda Giusti was second on the team with three goals followed by Laura Duran Blanco, who finished the season tied with two goals. Geraldine Alvarez capped the season with one goal and three assists.
