Lady Canes Walk On Waters

Lady Canes Walk On Waters

AMERICUS, Ga. — The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team defeated the Edward Waters University Tigers 3-0 in, once again, a historic night at Hurricane Field.

Field conditions were wet after storms had come through Americus all morning. The game was slow-paced but, in the 17th minute, Drea Singleton was able to break through the Tiger's defense and give the Hurricanes the lead.

The Hurricanes had plenty of chances as the first half continued but could never find that second goal they were looking for and headed into the half with just a 1-0 lead.

The second half was much more of the same, as the Lady Canes couldn't convert while keeping the Edward Waters goalkeeper busy with 12 shots on goal for the game. Finally, in the 87th minute, Geraldine Alvarez, with a cross into the box, found Payton Johnson who headed it into the back of the net and gave the Lady Canes the 2-0 lead they had been working for since the 17th minute.

As with most Hurricanes, when it rains, it pours, and just one minute later Zyandra Thomas, with her 4th goal of the season, ended all hopes for an Edward Waters comeback and gave the Lady Canes a 3-0 final score.

The Lady Canes look to continue their win streak at home Saturday, Oct. 9th at 5 P.M. against Clayton State.
