Ondo Picks Up A Pair Of Wins; GSW Falls 7-2

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback against UNC Pembroke on Friday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both schools.

The Lady Hurricanes overall record fell to 2-3. UNC Pembroke improved to 3-1.

Victoria Ondo picked up a pair of victories to lead GSW. Ondo teamed with fellow senior Carly Cangelosi to defeat Leigh-Anne McAfee and Shelby Bickel, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Ondo went on to earn a win at No. 5 singles where she went to a decisive tiebreaker with Monica Espitia and prevailed, 12-10. Ondo won the first set 7-6 and Espitia rallied to force the tiebreaker by claiming the second set, 6-1.

Cangelosi lost a close match with McAfee at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-3.

 

Southwestern returns to the courts on Saturday to host USC Aiken at 2:30 p.m.
