The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at nationally-ranked Columbus State on Friday afternoon by a pair of 9-0 scores. Playing shorthanded over the weekend, the women lost at Clark Atlanta 6-3 on Saturday and 9-0 at Clayton State on Sunday.

Both GSW teams are home on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. against Abraham Baldwin.

(#8) COLUMBUS STATE 9, GSW MEN 0

The Hurricanes strongest match in doubles came at No. 1 where Jake Koonce and Steven Blythe played the 17th-ranked team of Marco Almorin and Adi Malicbegovic to an 8-4 decision.

In singles action, Oliver Marshall came up short of his upset bid at No. 2 singles in a 6-4, 7-5 loss against 22nd-ranked Malicbegovic. 

Columbus State had two singles players and its top doubles team ranked in the Top 25 of NCAA Division II.

(#9) COLUMBUS STATE 9, GSW WOMEN 0

The Lady Hurricanes closest match of the afternoon came at No. 2 doubles where Anneliese Leahy and Jamie Thomas lost 8-4 to Elena Preadca and Olivera Tadijin.

GSW took five games from the Cougars in singles action. 

CLARK ATLANTA 6, GSW WOMEN 3

Carly Cangelosi picked up wins in both doubles and singles play to lead the Lady Hurricanes on Saturday. Cangelosi joined Anna Kate Shaw at No. 1 doubles to defeat Vonnick Boyoqueno and DiAndrea Galloway, 8-4. Cangelosi went on to knock off Tori Pradier at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-1.

Anneliese Leahy earned the other team point for GSW with her straight-set victory at No. 3 singles over Vanessa Jean-Baptiste, 6-1, 6-2.

For the second straight day, however, GSW was forced to default both a doubles and singles match due to a lack of active players. The Lady Hurricanes were unable to dig out of the early 2-0 hole against CAU. 

Leahy and Jamie Thomas suffered a tight 8-6 defeat at No. 2 doubles for the Lady Hurricanes and Anna Kate Shaw lost a tiebreaker to decide the third set of her match at No. 2 singles.

CAU evened its record at 11-11.

CLAYTON STATE 9, GSW WOMEN 0

Carly Cangelosi and Anna Kate Shaw provided a push in the second set of their matches on a day where the Lady Hurricanes struggled overall.

Cangelosi lost her second set, 6-4, against Raluca Pavel at No. 1 singles and Shaw took three games from Maria Mendes at No. 2.

GSW was forced to default both a doubles and singles match due to a lack of active players. 

The Southwestern women fall to 5-16 overall and 0-11 in the PBC this spring while Clayton State evened its overall record at 9-9 and moved to 4-6 in conference play.
