CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to the University of West Georgia on Tuesday afternoon at Sunset Hills Country Club.
The Lady Hurricanes fell to 4-11 overall this spring while West Georgia improved its record to 3-7.
GSW was strong at the top of singles play as freshman Celia del Castillo Torres was victorious at No. 1 over Sara Watson, 6-4, 6-2. Del Castillo Torres improved her singles record to 8-7 this spring. Sophomore Anneliese Leahy won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 against Taylor Lefton.
Freshman Kendall Crew forced a tiebreaker to decide the match at No. 3 singles. Crew eventually suffered a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) loss to Jordan England.
The GSW doubles team of Del Castillo Torres and Leahy had a strong showing in their 8-6 loss at No. 1.
Southwestern returns home to host Flagler College on Saturday in a 10 a.m. Peach Belt Conference match.
