Tennis Rolls Over Fort Valley State

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's tennis team combined to drop only six games across singles and doubles play in a 9-0 win over Fort Valley State on Friday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. The GSW men almost matched the Lady Hurricanes, as they lost nine games collectively en route to their 9-0 victory.

Both Hurricane programs see their records improve to 3-2 this spring.


GSW MEN 9, FORT VALLEY STATE 0

Steven Blythe at No. 1 and Joel Landis at No. 4 did not lose a game in singles action, rolling to 6-0, 6-0 victories. Alex Canovas Ferrando dropped his lone game in the second set, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Beau Millwood was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 3. Oliver Marshall blanked Henri Abrams in the first set at No. 5 before going on to win 6-0, 6-3.

Blythe and Marshall were victorious at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, while Canovas Ferrando and Millwood won by the same score for GSW at No. 2. 

The Hurricanes return to action on Friday and open Peach Belt Conference play with a 2 p.m. home match against North Georgia.


GSW WOMEN 9, FORT VALLEY STATE 0

The Lady Hurricanes lost one game over doubles play as Maria Taboada and Hannah Ayers were 8-0 winners at No. 1 and Celia del Castillo and Charli Allen won 8-1 at No. 2.

Allen picked up her second singles victory of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Taboada cruised 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1. Ayers won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Del Castillo was made quick work of Brishon Bridges at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0. 

The Lady Hurricanes travel to Reinhardt for a non-conference match on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. before returning home to open Peach Belt play on Friday against North Georgia at 2 p.m.
