Women's Singles On Point

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University women's tennis team rolled through singles competition on Saturday afternoon to rally from a 3-0 deficit and win 5-3 at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex against Point University. The men's match was much closer than the 8-1 loss for GSW would appear as one of the doubles matches was decided by two games and a pair of the singles matches came down to 10-point tiebreakers.

GSW WOMEN 5, POINT 3

The Lady Hurricanes lost only one set in singles play to pick up the come-from-behind victory. Charli Allen had the shortest match of the afternoon with her 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Celia del Castillo lost only four games at No. 1 and Anneliese Leahy did the same at No. 5.

Del Castillo and Maria Taboada had the best opportunity for a win in doubles, falling two points shy after dropping a 7-5 tiebreaker to decide the match at No. 1.

GSW improved its record to 2-3 while Point fell to 1-1.

The ladies return to action on Friday with matches in Albany, Ga., against Huntingdon College and Albany State University.

GSW MEN 1, POINT 8

Jonathan Martin and Nacho Garcia de Sola played the closest men's match of afternoon in doubles, suffering a 9-7 loss at No. 2.
