Solid Showing In Milledgeville

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern cross country team finished fifth at the 10-team D2 Georgia Collegiate Championships Saturday morning. Ashleigh Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by completing the 6K course in 25:07.81 for 15th place out of 77 competitors.

Savannah Ross was right behind Owens with a time of 25:19.08, good for 17th place while teammate Katherine McGarr was the third GSW runner across the line in 26:10.27, placing 25th. Victoria Hickom finished 34th overall at 26:49.42. Eyonnti Edwards had a time of 26:58.29, she was 36th. Shelby Parsekian finished 47th with a time of 27:57.79. Lauren Ard crossed four slots behind Parsekian at 28:16.14. Mary Catharine Calcutt had a time of 29:01.80.

Owens' time ranks seventh all-time in a 6K race for the GSW program and Ross clocked the eighth-fastest time. 

Finishing with 45 points, Columbus State took home the team title. Young Harris followed with 56 points and Georgia College took third with 75.

Nancy Murgor from Young Harris crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 22:28.66 to win the event.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Friday, when they head to Columbus, Ga. for the Cougar Invite two-mile run at 5:30 p.m.
