GSW Places Five In Top 25 At SCAD Atlanta Invite

NEWNAN, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team placed five individuals in the Top 25 overall and finished third of 11 teams at the Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta Invitational Friday evening at the Coweta County Fairgrounds. Ashleigh Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by finishing the 5K course in 21:15.73 for 11th place out of 82 competitors.

Katherine McGarr followed three slots behind Owens with a time of 21:31.55. Lauren Ard was the third GSW runner across the line, placing 17th in 21:40.80.

Savannah Ross (22:01.24) and Neeli Fortson (22:19.76) worked their way into the Top 25 by finishing 22nd and 25th, respectively. Morgan Cambron-Miller had a time of 22:44.40 and Mary Catharine Calcutt completed the course in 23:25.87 to land in the top half of the field.  

Finishing with 18 points, SCAD Atlanta took home the team title. The hosts had four freshman take the first four slots in the individual standings. Clayton State (86) eked past the Lady 'Canes by three points for second place. West Georgia (95) and Point University (127) rounded out the Top 5 in the team standings.

Emily Kearney led the group of SCAD Atlanta runners across the line and won the race with a time of 18:05.47.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Friday when they head to Carrollton, Ga., for the University of West Georgia Wolves Cross Country Invitational at 5:15 p.m.
