Owens Back In GSW Record Book; Lady Canes Season Ends At NCAA Regionals

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team finished 24th of 27 teams at the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships hosted by the University of Montevallo on Saturday morning at the UM Cross Country Course. Ashleigh Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by completing the 6K in 24:14.76 for 75th place out of 182 competitors.

Owens' time ranks as the fourth-fastest 6K in program history.

Lauren Ard was the second runner to cross the finish line for GSW with a time of 25:19.67, good for 117th place while Connie Lewis was third for the Lady Hurricanes with a time 25:51.28, placing 130th overall. Katherine McGarr finished 150th at 26:37.12. Neeli Fortson had a time of 26:39.17 to place 151st. Savannah Ross finished with a time of 26:50.74. Mary Catharine Calcutt placed 162nd.

Montevallo placed three runners in the top nine and five in the top 14 to claim the team title. 

Leah Hanle from Mount Olive crossed the finish line in 21:03.65 to win the race.
