Lady 'Canes Finish 7th Of 14 Teams In Milledgeville

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team finished seventh of 14 teams at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College Saturday morning at the Council Farm Course. Ashleigh Owens paced the Lady Hurricanes by completing the 6K course in 25:33.5 for 30th place out of 121 competitors.

Katherine McGarr was the second runner to cross the finish line for GSW with a time of 26:37.7, good for 48th place while freshman Connie Lewis was third for the Lady Hurricanes with a time 26:40.7, placing 50th overall. Lauren Ard finished 53rd at 26:51.7. Neeli Fortson had a time of 27:50.6 to place 60th. Mary Catharine Calcutt finished 65th with a time of 28:25.2. Savannah Ross crossed two slots behind Calcutt. Freshmen Morgan Cambron-Miller and Hannah Croft placed 78th and 100th, respectively.

The Lady Hurricanes, picked to finish 12th of 13 teams in the Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches' poll released August 22, finished ahead of three conference foes. The school picked to finish below GSW did not participate in this event.

Finishing with 37 points, North Georgia took home the team title. Augusta followed with 57 points and Valdosta State took third with 94.

Katherine Yost from Georgia College crossed the finish line in 23:01 to win the race.

The Lady Hurricanes return to action Sept. 24, when they head to Columbus, Ga. for the Cougar Invitational.
