Earley Posts Personal Best Time, Leads GSW at PBC Preview

OAKWOOD, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern State University women's cross country team finished in sixth place out of seven schools at the Peach Belt Preview hosted by the University of North Georgia on Saturday morning at the UNG Gainesville Campus. Sophomore Sarah Earley paced the Lady Hurricanes by completing the 5K course in 20:52, topping her fastest 5K time by 29 seconds, to take 25th place out of 45 competitors. 

Flagler College had three runners finish in the Top 5 and earned a cumulative score of 32 points to capture the team title, edging out the hosts from North Georgia (35). Clayton State University (103) was a distant third ahead of Piedmont College (109) and Bryan College (127).  

Freshman Brianna Zupko crossed the finish line second for GSW on Saturday with a time of 21:24, good for 29th place. The Lady Hurricanes took slots 33 through 36, led by freshman Savannah Miller who made her collegiate debut in a time of 22:20. Fellow freshman Anna Parker (22:31) was next across the line, followed by the debut of freshman Megan Strickland (22:33) and senior Maddie Toth (22:43). Toth shattered her personal best time by 40 seconds. Grace Regan rounded things out for GSW in 24:43.

Mackenzie Taylor from Augusta University crossed the finish line first overall with a time of 17:05.

The Lady Hurricanes close out the 2020 season on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they return to the UNG course for the Peach Belt Conference Championships.
