Lawson enters his sixth season with Georgia Southwestern State University where he serves as an assistant Athletic Trainer, and oversees athletic performance. In the 2021-22 season Lawson was the Athletic Trainer with Men’s Soccer, Baseball, and Men’s Cross Country. In all other years he split the sport responsibilities with Shannon Greene-Spanolios.

As the Head Athletic Performance department, which started in 2017, he has successfully implemented team strength and conditioning programs for all sports. Throughout his time in this role he used technology as a tool to effectively enhance training programs and overall student-athlete welfare during sport participation. Lawson was tasked with completely redesigning the Athletic Weight room and modernizing it to a state-of-the-art facility that is functional for the needs of collegiate athletes, and makes athletes want to be their best. He attained his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification from the NSCA in 2017, and in 2020 he became a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach also from the NSCA.

In the summer of 2021 Lawson had the opportunity to work at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs as part of the Volunteer Sports Medicine Program.

Prior to arriving at Georgia Southwestern, Lawson worked at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL from 2016-17. There he provided coverage to a wide range of sports. From 2014-16 Lawson was a Graduate Assistant at Lindenwood University where he worked with primarily the Women’s Rugby team as well as Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive, Men’s and Women’s Water Polo, and Women’s Synchronized Swimming. He graduated in from Lindenwood in 2016 with a Master of Science in Human Performance. In 2014 he graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Since 2014 he has maintained his Athletic Training Certification with the BOC.
