Hurricanes Offense Leads the Way in Midweek Win

ALBANY, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern (22-23) defeated Albany State in the second matchup of the season between the two schools, the last matchup in Americus ended in a 4-3 victory for the Hurricanes in extra innings. GSW began their onslaught early in the ballgame scoring seven runs in the first inning. In the third inning they added another four runs taking an 11-0 lead into the bottom half of the inning. Albany State scored five in the bottom of the third and then four in the bottom of the sixth with GSW only managing one run in the middle innings.

The lead was cut to 12-9 and the Hurricanes answered with five runs in the eighth and 2 more in the ninth to secure the 19-9 victory. Tyler Skelton led the team offensivley driving in 6 runs on four hits, including three doubles. John Austin Sutton and Anthony Angelino added three hits each to the Hurricane offense with 3 RBIs and 2 RBIs respectively. Colby Gordon closed the game out throwing 3 2/3 innings allowing no runs on four hits.

The win moves GSW to one game below .500 with one more game to play before their final regular season series versus Young Harris College. GSW will host Shorter University tomorrow for their final non-conference matchup of the regular season.
