PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The No. 11 Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a 299 in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship at PGA National on Monday to finish the day in second place out of 16 teams.

The Hurricanes are four shots behind the tournament leaders No. 4 Arkansas Tech University. 

Jaxson Daskalos led the way for GSW with a 1-over-par 73 on the 7,051-yard Champion course. He is tied for fourth place out of 84 golfers, two strokes off the lead. Daskalos posted four birdies on the front nine. 

Jack Tharrington and Chase McLain each carded a 75 to tie for 19th. McLain eagled the 18th hole. Saksit Jairak is a stroke back of Tharrington and McLain in a tie for 27th. Simon Estrada shot an 89. 

The Hurricanes will tee off Round 2 on Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m.

The top eight teams after Round 3 will be seeded and advance to match play beginning on Thursday to decide a national champion.
