PENSACOLA, Fla. — The ninth-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a final round total of 299 to finish in fifth place on Tuesday at the Argonaut Invitational hosted by West Florida. As a team, the Hurricanes finished 11-over on the day after finishing 12-under on the first day. The tournament, which is hosted by West Florida, is being played at Pensacola Country Club and features 17 teams.
Nine of the 17 teams competing are ranked inside the top 25 of the Golfstat rankings. The ranked teams include No. 2 Lincoln Memorial (7th), No. 5 Lee University (2nd), No. 6 Arkansas Tech (1st), No. 8 Oklahoma Christian (T3), No. 9 GSW (5th), No. 11 Limestone (T3), No. 14 West Florida (6th), No. 16 Columbus State (11th), No. 22 Henderson State (10th) and No. 23 West Georgia (12th).
Simon Estrada led the Hurricanes for the event shooting 75 for his final round finishing tied for tenth place on Tuesday. Estrada posted three birdies but one double bogey on his final hole of the event on Tuesday put him at three-over.
Nicolas Escobar finished second on the team after the final round shooting 76 after his second round of 73 on Monday to finish in 15th place in the standings. Erik Fogel finished with a second round of 69 on Monday and added a 77 on Tuesday finishing tied for 20th overall. Saksit Jairak finished tied for 27th and shot two-over on Monday and Tuesday, one of the few golfers to shoot equal to or better than they did previous day. Chase Mclain carded a 74 in the final round finishing the day tied for 37th place. Alex Wells playing as an individual finished the day out for the Hurricanes shooting a 75 in the final round finishing tied for 54th place on Monday.
National No. 6 Arkansas Tech won the team event at 7-under par, shooting 12-over in the final round holding on to the win by four strokes over Lee University. Francois Jacobs of Arkansas Tech won the individual event at 11-under, two strokes ahead of Nicolas Cabello from Clayton State.
