GSW Struggles In PBC Opener

AMERICUS - Sometimes it just isn't your day.

Friday was not a favorable day for the Georgia Soutwestern men's soccer team as the goals came early and often for UNC Pembroke in the Braves' 6-0 victory at Hurricane Field.

GSW falls to 0-2-1 overall. UNCP remains perfect this season at 4-0. It was the first Peach Belt Conference match of the season for both schools.

James Casserly and Sam Miles alternated scores with two apiece in the opening 20 minutes to put UNCP up 4-0.

Brett Luccia converted a penalty kick at the 36:43 mark to give the Braves a 5-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Martin Tomter finished the scoring early in the second half when his header off a rebound found the back of the net in the 52nd minute.

UNCP finished with a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Braves also held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.

Michael Corrigan and Alex Babiolakis paced the Hurricanes with two shots apiece.

GSW goalkeepers Garrett Blamire and Ryan Tucker saw time between the pipes in relief of starter Cade Jones. Blamire saved three. Tucker stopped two. Ryan Hanson stopped one for UNCP.

Southwestern returns to the pitch on Sunday for a 4 p.m. match against West Alabama at Hurricane Field.
