Georgia Regents Takes Two From GSW Tennis

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Georgia Regents on Friday afternoon at the Newman Tennis Center. The men fell to the 21st-ranked Jaguars, 9-0 and the women lost 9-0.

The GSW men watch their overall record fall to 2-5 and start 0-3 in PBC. Georgia Regents improved to 7-1, 2-1 in conference play.

The Lady Hurricanes record drops to 2-7 overall, 0-5 in the PBC while Georgia Regents improved to 7-2, 3-2 in PBC play.

No. 21 GEORGIA REGENTS 9, GSW MEN 0

The Hurricanes best opportunity for a team point came at No. 1 singles where Jake Koonce pushed 20th-ranked Romain Ferreira to a decisive tiebreaker. Koonce narrowly missed the upset, 3-6, 6-2, 0-1 (5-10).

GSW had a strong showing at No. 2 doubles as well, where Oliver Marshall and Abel Acuna-Moreno lost 8-6 to the team of Romain Brunie and Thomas Sevel.

GEORGIA REGENTS 9, GSW WOMEN 0

The Lady Hurricanes best showing came at No. 1 doubles where Carly Cangelosi and Sydnee Smith lost 8-4 to the team of Monica Gonzalez and Gisela Font.

Smith won three games at No. 2 singles, as did Jamie Thomas at No. 5.
