AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's softball team picked up their first two Peach Belt Conference wins Saturday evening against Augusta University at Lady 'Canes Field.

GSW improved to 14-14 overall and 2-4 in the PBC, while Augusta University dropped to 7-27 and 2-4 PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 6, AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY 5

Joshlyn Martin led the Lady 'Canes to victory by driving in five runs and finishing 3-for-3 at the plate in Game 1.

GSW took an early lead when Martin homered on a 2-2 count in the first inning, scoring Hayley Tierce. Augusta University scored three runs in the fourth inning off a double and a two-run home run. Augusta hit another two-run homer in the fifth to lead 5-2.

The Lady 'Canes had a huge inning in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs. Emily Smith scored off a single from Tierce and Martin had a three-run homer scoring Mikela Barlow and Tierce to take a one-run lead.

GSW's defense held off Augusta for two innings to take their first conference win.

Shannon Gibson (W, 4-5) pitched five innings, faced 23 batters, struck out one, gave up nine hits and five runs.

Brittany Childs pitched two innings, faced seven batters, struck out one and only allowed one hit to record her second save of the season.

GAME 2: GSW 12, AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY 3

Augusta University scored one run in both the first and second to take a two-run lead. Tierce drove in runs on a grand slam late in the bottom of the second to score Brittany Davis, Ella Hawkins and Barlow.

Augusta University scored their last run in the third and the Lady 'Canes brought in eight more runs.

Allee Denney hit a three-run homer in the fourth to score Barlow and Tierce and GSW had five more runs in the fifth. Hawkins, Barlow and Tierce all scored off walks and B. Davis hit a two-run double to left center to score Martin and Denney to run-rule the game and take their second conference win.

Barlow went 2-for-2 at the plate and B. Davis was 2-for-3.

Brittany Childs (W, 7-4) pitched five innings, faced 22 batters, struck out two and scattered six  hits and three runs.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Sunday to host Georgia College in a conference doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
