Saints Sweep Lady 'Canes

AMERICUS, Ga.- Errors did not help the Georgia Southwestern softball team on Saturday against Flagler College as they lost both games at Lady 'Canes Field.

GSW is now 17-25 overall, 4-10 in the Peach Belt Conference while Flagler moved to 30-17, 13-5 PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 3, FLAGLER COLLEGE 4

Flagler scored off a sacrifice fly in the first and scored two more runs in the third off a double and a single to take a 3-0 lead.

The Lady 'Canes scored two runs in the fifth to stay alive. Brittany Davis hit a single up the middle to score Ella Hawkins and Joshlyn Martin singled to third base to plate Emily Smith.

Hayley Tierce scored off a ground out in the seventh to tie the game and head into extra innings.

Flagler singled to right center scoring the winning run after holding off GSW's batting in the bottom of the eighth inning.

B. Davis, Martin and Sabrina Sieber all went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Gibson pitched eight innings, faced 36 batters, struck out one, walked two and allowed 10 hits and four runs.

GAME 2: GSW 2, FLAGLER COLLEGE 10

Flagler started the first inning off with a solo home run and hit another to score two more runs. They scored one more run in the first inning to take a four-run lead.

Flagler scored four more runs in the second off two doubles, an error and a ground out to take an eight-run advantage.

Marin scored in the bottom of the second off a single from Sieber to put the Lady 'Canes on the board. Flagler scored one in the third off an error and another in the fifth off a wild pitch to take a 10-1 lead.

Kaley Sikes hit her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the fifth for GSW's second run. Flagler was able to keep GSW from getting any more runs and shut it down in five innings to complete the sweep.

Barlow went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Brittany Childs pitched 1.1 innings, faced 13 batters and gave up eight hits and seven runs.

Sikes pitched 3.2 innings, faced 18 batters, struck out two, walked two and allowed four hits and three runs.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Sunday for a conference doubleheader against No. 13 Armstrong State starting at 1 p.m. at Lady 'Canes Field.
