#9 North Georgia Sweeps Lady 'Canes

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Georgia Southwestern softball team was swept by the ninth-ranked North Georgia Nighthawks Friday evening at Hill Stadium.

GSW is now 22-30 overall and 7-15 in the Peach Belt Conference while North Georgia moved to 38-10, 17-4 PBC.

GAME 1: GSW 0, NORTH GEORGIA 8

North Georgia took an early three-run lead after scoring one run off a fielders choice and then plating two more off a two-run double in the first.

They extended their lead to seven runs after scoring four more in the second with a two-run homer and two RBI doubles.

North Georgia hit a walk-off home run in the fifth to take the 8-0 win in five innings.

Brittany Davis and Ella Hawkins were 1-for-1 at the plate getting GSW's only hits of the game.

Shannon Gibson (7-12) pitched 1.2 innings, faced 14 batters, walked one and gave up seven hits and seven runs.

Brittany Childs pitched 2.1 innings, faced nine batters, struck out two, walked one and only allowed one hit and one run.

GAME 2: GSW 0, NORTH GEORGIA 7

North Georgia took a 1-0 lead after scoring in the first off a ground out. GSW's defense was able to hold them off for two innings but they scored again in the fourth off a single to take a two-run lead.

A two-run double in the fifth pushed North Georgia four runs ahead of GSW. A single up the middle gave them a five run lead and they scored their last two runs off walks.

Hawkins, Hayley Tierce and Joshlyn Martin all were 1-for-3 at the plate to record GSW's three hits of the game.

Kaley Sikes (4-8) pitched 5.2 innings, faced 28 batters, struck out three, walked two and scattered seven hits and seven runs.

Childs pitched 1/3 of an inning, faced three batters and walked two.

The Lady 'Canes are away on Saturday for a conference doubleheader against Young Harris College starting at 2 p.m.
