Softball Streak Snapped at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The Montevallo Falcons handed the Georgia Southwestern State University softball team 10-2 and 9-0 defeats at the Montevallo Softball Stadium Tuesday, snapping the Lady Canes eight-game win streak.

GSW fell to 9-8 overall while Montevallo improved to 13-3 on the season.

Freshman Elizabeth Wills recorded two of the four Georgia Southwestern hits in the first game, raising her average to a team-high .341 17 games into the season. Mikela Barlow doubled and Graysen Sanders had an infield single accounting for the two other GSW hits.

Ansley Dean started in the circle and took the loss after being charged with four runs on three hits and a walk in the first inning. Madason Messer replaced Dean and gave up six runs on 11 hits the rest of the way.

Both GSW runs came across in the third when Lauren Kuerzi and Payton Singletary drew bases loaded walks off Montevallo starter Amanda Ingram. Allee Denney struck out to end the inning and leave three left on base.

The Lady Canes managed just three hits in game two as Barlow, Chloe Zoeller and Cassidy Burton each singled. Barlow and Zoeller both reached in the first inning to give GSW runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out, but Montevallo retired the next three in order to end the inning.

Brittany Childs took the loss in game two, giving up nine runs on 13 hits to fall to 2-2 on the season.
