Lady Canes Leave Flagler Invitational 1-1

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Aimee Oglesby's grand slam in the first inning led Georgia Southwestern's softball team to a 12-8 win over Anderson University (S.C.) during opening day of the Flagler Invitational played at Flagler Field Saturday morning. The Lady Canes ended the tournament 1-1, as they lost in the last inning to Lynn University. 

Game 1: GSW 12, Anderson 8

Oglesby blasted her first grand slam of the season into the left field as GSW led 5-0 to end the first inning. GSW was up 7-0 going into the third inning until and that's when Anderson started to score. In the top of the third, Anderson scored five runs off a pair of doubles and a single RBI. Down 7-0, Morgan Charter led the way as bases were loaded that pushed two people across the home plate. 

Sara Beth King got the Lady Canes back started with a home run in the bottom of the third. A double by Briana Bryson led Chloe Zoeller across the plate to push the Lady Canes up a score. GSW scored three more times in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach for the Trojans. Hayley Dickerson took the win as she pitched four innings. Jennifer Jernigan came behind her to end the game. 

Game 2: GSW 0, Lynn 2

Jernigan led the way in game two as she almost forced a shutout. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lynn's Shannon Johnson bombed a home run into the right field with her teammate on base to get the 2-0 victory. Johnson's lone home run was one of the six hits Lynn got off against the Lady Canes.

The Fighting Knights held GSW to zero hits to end the day, 

Up Next:  The Lady Canes will travel to Montgomery, Ala. to play in the AUM Invitational Feb. 8-9.
