#5 Valdosta Gets Best Of GSW

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team was swept by #5 Valdosta State in a pair of midweek games Wednesday night inside Steel's Diamond. Both games ended in five innings as GSW used a total of four pitchers throughout both games. 

Game One: GSW 1, Valdosta 9

With bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Kayla Kerr received the sole RBI of the evening when she was walked and pushed Chloe Zoeller across the plate for the lone GSW score. Zoeller and Hayley Tierce both had two hits as Aimee Oglesby also had a hit. 

Kerr received her first lost of the season with 0.1 innings pitched, as she let off four runs, three hits and walked one batter. Shannon Gibson started the day with 4.1 innings pitched as she let off eight hits that gave up five runs but had two strikeouts. 

Game Two: GSW 0, Valdosta 10

VS's Kiley Robb hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth as the Blazers scored five runs total to end the game due to the mercy rule. Hayley Dickerson started the game where she gave up five runs but had four strike outs in 4.0 innings pitched. Kayla Rowell led the Lady Canes with four putouts. 

GSW gave up three home runs, with the final one coming in the bottom of the fifth inning to push three Blazers across the plate to finish the game. 

Up Next: The Lady Canes (9-9) kicks off their Peach Belt Conference schedule when Georgia College comes to town Saturday, March 9 on Bark in the Park day for a double header. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. All animals are welcomed!
