YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - During Game 2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Young Harris College hit a game-winning single into the right field that pushed Morgan Curley across the plate for the 4-3 win, causing the split during Sunday's doubleheader at E.D. Rivers Field. 

The Lady Canes picked up their first Peach Belt Conference shutout this season during Game 1 against the Mountain Lions behind the efforts of Shannon Gibson. 

Game 1: GSW 7, YHC 0

Aimee Oglesby hit her seventh home run this season in the top of the second as she sent one over the center field wall to push Gibson across the plate for a 2-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Allyson Murdock singled into right center field and pushed Haley Griffin across the plate for an additional score. Elizabeth Wills, who entered the game to pinch hit for Tanner Robertson, hit a one-run single into the right side as Gibson scored for a 4-0 lead. 

Gibson, who also started in the circle, hit a two-run triple into the center field as she pushed Lauren Kuerzi and KayLynn Church across the plate to pick up two RBIs. Kayla Kerr followed with a single into the left field and picked up an RBI when she pushed Oglesby across the plate for the final score. Gibson picked up her ninth win this season as she only gave up one hit while striking out three Mountain Lions. 

Game 2: GSW 3, YHC 4

Sarah Beth King picked up two RBIs when she doubled into the right center field in the top of the first inning as she pushed Hayley Tierce and Kerr across the plate for a 2-0 lead. Kerr received help from Kuerzi, who singled into center field as that pushed Kerr across the plate for a 3-0 lead to end the first inning. 

YHC (26-16, 7-5 PBC) scored one run in the bottom of the second and two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3. Biz Walters worked her way around the bases and scored on a wild pitch. A triple by Jill Torres put the Mountain Lions in scoring position again. Kara Straub, who entered to pinch run for Torres, advanced across the plate for the tieing score when her teammate grounded out to third base. 

In the top of the seventh inning, a left-center double by Kerr put GSW (23-19, 7-5 PBC) in scoring position with two outs on the board. Tierce was then hit by a pitch as GSW had players on first and second, with King up at bat. Aiming for the go-ahead score, King was struck out swinging to close the inning. With one player on base, Torres doubled into the left field as she put the Mountain Lions on path to win Game 2. A single by Haylie Shope into the right field did just that when Curley advanced for the game-winning score. 

Up Next: GSW stays on the road as they will travel to Emmanuel, Ga., to play Emmanuel in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, April 10 for a 2 p.m. start.
