MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- Freshman Jenna Hollomon sent a game-winning bomb over the left field for her first collegiate home run during Game 2 in the doubleheader against Montevallo this evening. The Georgia Southwestern softball team split the twinbill inside Orr Park by scores of 6-3 in Game 1 and 1-0 in Game 2. 

Game 1: GSW 3, Montevallo 6

GSW started the scoring in the top of the second inning as Chloe Zoeller picked up an RBI when she singled to third base. She advanced on a throwing error by the third base as GSW made the game 2-0 when Elizabeth Wills and Aimee Oglesby snuck by. A wild pitch in the bottom of the second led to the Falcons to their first score of the game as they proceeded to score more runs after that. A one-run single followed by a one-run double in the bottom third gave Montevallo a 3-2 lead. 

Ansley Dean entered the game in the bottom fourth to relief Shannon Gibson but gave up a home run over the left wall with two outs as she struck out the fourth batter. The Falcons went to score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to hold a 6-2 lead over the Lady Canes. In the top of the seventh with Zoeller on second after reaching base on a single and advancing on a SAC bunt by Dean, Hayley Tierce doubled into left field and pushed Zoeller across the plate to cut the score in half. Gibson picked up the loss from inside the circle as she gave up three runs on four hits but had two strikeouts. 

Game 2: GSW 1, Montevallo 0

The Lady Canes (26-22) got their first hit in Game 2 in the top of the fifth when Kayla Kerr singled into left field and put GSW on the base for the first time. Briana Bryson and Zoeller was then walked to load the bases with two outs as Oglesby entered to pinch hit. Oglesby hit a pop up to the third base as GSW was sent back into the dugout. 

In the top of the seventh with one out, Hollomon entered the game to pinch hit for Mackenzy McFarland and hit the game-winning run over the left field wall. Bryson and Zoeller was struck out as the Falcons (23-22) combined for nine strikeouts in Game 2. Hayley Dickerson picked up the win, pitching 6.1 innings and giving up five hits. Dean secured her second save of the year as she struck out one batter in 0.2 innings pitched. 

Up Next: The Lady Canes return to conference play and will hit the road to St. Augustine, Fla., for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20th for a 1 p.m. start.
