DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Three Georgia Southwestern softball players were named to the 2019 Softball All-Tournament Team announced shortly after the completion of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Saturday evening.
The Lady Canes finished the PBC Tournament runner-up, defeating No. 2 Columbus State and No. 3 Young Harris but falling to No. 1 University of North Georgia in the championship game.
Junior pitcher Shannon Gibson picked up two wins while pitching a total of 16.1 innings. She gave up nine hits, six runs and struck out eight players along the way. Offensively, she was 1-for-10 with one run and one RBI.
Junior left fielder Kayla Kerr went 1-for-11, hitting one home run while getting two RBIs throughout the tournament. Kerr's sole home run helped lift the Lady Canes over Columbus State in the quarterfinals.
Junior catcher Sarah Beth King went 2-for-6, hitting two home runs while picking up four RBIs along the way. From behind the plate, she accounted for 14 total putouts. King's second home run came in the sixth inning of the semifinals against Young Harris, which helped GSW make it to the championship game.
