AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team is preparing to begin their 2020 season as their schedule is set with 56 games. Playing only 20 games on the Lady Hurricane Field, they are scheduled for two home series games during the opening month.
Last season, the Lady Hurricanes made history where they picked up the most conference wins (10) in GSW history as they earned a berth to the PBC tournament for the second consecutive year. GSW finished their season runner-up, going 2-1 in the tournament.
GSW opens the season competing in the Flagler Invitational, Jan. 31 - Feb. 1 where they will play Barry University (Fla.) and Lynn University (Fla.). The Lady Hurricanes will then take the short trip to play Albany State on Feb. 8 before coming back to Americus to host their first home game on Feb. 12 against Fort Valley State.
From Feb. 14-15, the Lady Hurricanes will be competing in the Cougar Classic where they will play games against Albany State, Coker College, Queens University (N.C.) and Union (Tenn.). GSW plays Clark Atlanta (Feb. 18) and Point University (Feb. 22) before hosting their final home game of the month against Albany State on Feb. 26. A short visit to Fort Valley on Feb. 29 closes the month.
The Lady Hurricanes open up March on the road at Valdosta State on March 4 before returning to host back-to-back home games against Middle Georgia State (March 6) and Shorter (March 10). GSW will open up Peach Belt Conference play on March 13 against Georgia College before taking on Auburn Montgomery in a Tuesday match on March 17.
GSW will then compete in a weekend series with games against Augusta (March 21) and USC Aiken (March 22). A short trip out to play West Georgia is scheduled for March 25 as GSW returns home to host Young Harris on March 28 for their first Saturday game of the season. GSW closes out the month on March 31 against Emmanuel (Ga.).
PBC Tournament Champions North Georgia visits Americus for a home game on April 3 before GSW takes the road to play Southern Wesleyan (April 7), UNC Pembroke (April 10) and Francis Marion (April 11). GSW will close the month with a slew of home games starting with a Tuesday matchup against Montevallo on April 14. Columbus State (April 18), Flagler (April 19) and Lander (April 24) wraps up the 2020 regular season for the Lady Hurricanes.
The PBC Championship will be hosted by Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., May 1-2.
