GSW Continues Strong Winning Streak

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team extended their winning streak to 10 games, staying undefeated on Lady Hurricanes field as they swept Shorter University by scores of 4-0 and 2-1 Tuesday afternoon. 

Katelyn Wood and Aimee Oglesby both finished Game 1 with a pair of hits as they both had home runs. 

Game 1: GSW 4, Shorter 0

Wood put the Lady Hurricanes up first in the bottom first when she hit a two-run home run into left field with her first at-bat to put GSW up 2-0. With two outs and two on base in the bottom third, Lauren Kuerzi picked up and RBI when she singled up the middle to push the score up for GSW.

Oglesby started off the bottom fourth with a quick home run over the left center fence for the final 4-0 score as the Hawks couldn't get into scoring position. Shannon Gibson picked up the win from the circle with four strikeouts, walking just one Hawk. 

Game 2: GSW 2, Shorter 1

The Hawks didn't make Game 2 easy for the Lady Hurricanes but with Hannah Holloway in the circle, her seven strikeouts led the way for the sweep. Shorter put a run on the board in the top of the third inning. In the bottom fifth with runners in scoring position, Wood crafted a SAC RBI bunt for the tieing score. Mackenzy McFarland picked up an RBI single as the next batter up to give GSW the lead. 

Holloway struck out three of the next six Hawks to lead them to victory, picking up her third win of the season.
