Lady 'Canes Fall In Fourth Quarter

AMAERICUS, Ga.- Despite out rebounding Auburn Mongumery, the Georgia Southwestern womens' basketball team fell to the Warhawks 60-51 Tuesday night in the Storm Dome.

GSW is 0-1 to start the season while AUM moved to 1-2.

Brittany Grant started the game with a three-pointer to lead the Lady 'Canes early. AUM put in four consecutive baskets to take a five point lead five minutes into the game. Kya Cochran put in a layup followed by Kris Beckham with a jumper and Va'Queshia Hall with two lay ups for a three point lead. AUM came back to tie the game 12-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams scored ten points in the second quarter to head into halftime tied 22-22.

Gabby Figgers stepped it up for the Lady 'Canes in the third quarter scoring six of GSW's 15 points to put them ahead 37-35 heading into the fourth.

AUM tied the game two more times until they took and kept the lead with 8:26 remaining. GSW came within one point at the 5:57 mark but the Warhawks scored nine consecutive points before GSW made another basket. The Lady 'Canes played a tough defense but AUM outscored GSW 25-14 in the fourth to take an 11 point victory.

Coachran had a game high nine points for GSW in her college debut and picked up six rebounds. Hall recorded seven points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Figgers scored eight points in her GSW debut and Grant had seven points. Whitton was 3-4 in field goals and picked up five rebounds.

GSW is on the road Friday and Saturday for the Peach Belt/SIAC Challenge at Fort Valley. The Lady 'Canes play Fort Valley State Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Albany State Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
