Lady Hurricanes Roll Past Golden Rams For Fifth Straight Win

ALBANY, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team came back from being down in the first quarter to win their fifth straight game Saturday night against Albany State and improved their record to 5-1 while the Golden Rams dropped to 1-8.

GSW tied the game twice in the first quarter before Albany State took a four point lead and extended it to nine. Brittany Grant put in a layup with 30 seconds left and Shanya Jones sank a basket to close the first quarter down 15-10.

Albany State kept the lead for most of the second quarter until Aleah Holden closed the gap to two points and Whitney Young put in a three pointer to take the lead with 2:21 remaining.

Albany State took the lead back and GSW quickly tied it up. The lead changed four more times in the last minute until Mallory Diamond put in a layup with five second left to help GSW lead 35-34 at halftime.

Albany State outscored GSW 16-13 in the third quarter to lead 50-48 heading into the final quarter.

The game was tied three times and the lead changed four timed in the fourth quarter until GSW took the final lead of the game with 3:42 left.

Va'Queshia Hall made a free throw to take a one point lead and made a layup followed by Khayla Owens with a layup to lead by five. Albany State scored a basket before Jones made an old fashioned three pointer with 1:35 remaining.

Grant put in a layup and Hall made a jump shot to lead 69-58 with 14 seconds left. Albany State made two free throws and Grant closed out the game with a free throw to give GSW the 70-60 win.

Hall led the team with 14 points and Holden led with 7 rebounds.

The Lady Hurricanes are back home on Tuesday to host Fort Valley State in a non-conference game at 11 a.m.
