Lander Snaps GSW's Win Streak

GREENWOOD, S.C.- The Georgia Southwestern woman's basketball teams Peach Belt Conference win streak came to an end Friday night in a loss against Lander University at Finis Home Arena.

GSW is now 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the PBC while Lander University moved to 9-3, 3-1 PBC.

Chanice Whitton put up 12 points for the Lady 'Canes, shooting 4-4 in free throws. Va'Queshia Hall and Aleah Holden both scored 10 points, Holden also going 4-4 from the free throw line.

The Lady 'Canes tied the game three times in the first quarter before the Bearcats took and kept the lead after going on a 12 point streak. Holden cut the lead to ten with two free throws and Lander put in a 3-pointer to lead 23-10 with 2:21 remaining.

The Lady 'Canes kept fighting, scoring six more points before the time ran down in the first quarter and entered the second quarter down 25-16.

Lander started the second quarter with a seven point streak and had two more runs to out score GSW 24-10 and head into halftime up 49-26.

Holden and Whitton scored the first baskets of the third quarter to boost GSW's momentum. GSW went on a 10 point streak to cut Lander's lead to 12 and out scored the Bearcats 23-18.

Lander started the fourth quarter with a 10 point run and led 76-49 with 7:33 left. GSW's momentum fell in the fourth, scoring 15 points compared to Lander's 23.

Lander had their largest lead of 80-51 with 5:40 remaining and took the win with a score of 90-64.

The Lady Hurricanes return home Monday to host Flagler College in a conference game at 5:30 p.m.
