Figgers Scores Season-High 17 Points In Young Harris Loss

AMERICUS, Ga.- Gabby Figgers scored a season-high 17points for the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team in their 64-51 loss to Young Harris College on Wednesday night in the Storm Dome.

GSW dropped to 11-9 and 6-7 in the Peach Belt Conference while YHC moved to 8-11, 4-8 PBC.

YHC had a 4-1 lead two minutes in and Kya Cochran drained a 3-pointer to tie it up. YHC made a free throw to take a one point advantage and Figgers put in a 3-pointer to take a 7-5 lead.

The Mountain Lions retaliated by making three consecutive 3-pointers and made a fourth after Brittany Grant put in two free throws. Shanya Jones put in a layup and YHC put in two more baskets before the quarter ended to lead 21-11.

Both teams recorded eight points in the second quarter and Young Harris took a 29-19 lead heading into halftime.

The Lady 'Canes went on a seven-point run in the beginning of the third quarter to come within six points. Grant made a 3-pointer followed by Figgers with a jump shot and Aleah Holden made a layup.

YHC went on a five-point run to extend their lead to 11 before Grant put in two free throws to cut it back to nine. The Mountain Lions took a 14-point lead with 2:43 left in the third and Figgers drained another 3-pointer to bring it back to 11 and Cochran made two free throws to cut it to nine.

The Mountain Lions ended the quarter with a layup and two free throws to head into the final quarter up 48-35.

The final quarter was even, both teams scoring 16 points each. The Lady 'Canes came within nine points of the lead after Figgers drained back-to-back 3-pointers with 5:33 remaining. YHC ended the game with four free throws to take the 13 point win.

Figgers recorded five 3-pointers, Grant scored 12 points and Chanice Whitton picked up eight rebounds.

The Lady Hurricanes are home Saturday to host Montevallo at 2:30 p.m.
