DAHLONEGA, Ga.- After leading for three quarters the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team lost to the University of North Georgia 93-84 Wednesday Night in Memorial Hall.

GSW dropped to 12-10 overall and 7-8 in the Peach Belt Conference while UNG moved to 18-6, 10-5 PBC.

Brittany Grant opened the quarter making one of two free throws off a technical foul to take a 1-0 lead before the clock started and put in a jump shot soon after.

UNG took a two point lead at the 6:12 mark after making a 3-pointer. Aleah Holden tied the game 9-9 and Grant put in two free throws to take an 11-9 edge. UNG tied it with a jump shot and Khayla Owens put in a 3-pointer to take the lead again. Shanya Jones made a layup to give GSW a 16-11 advantage.

UNG put in a jumper and Va'Queshia Hall ended the quarter with a jump shot and two free throws to head into the second quarter up 20-13.

Gabby Figgers started the second quarter draining a 3-pointer to take a 10-point lead for GSW. The Nighthawks went on a seven-point run to trail by three at the 8:07 mark and were within two-points with 5:24 left.

The Lady 'Canes went on a five-point run to take a seven point lead and the Nighthawks cut it to five-points with two free throws.

Mallory Diamond made a 3-pointer and Figgers made another to give GSW an 11-point lead. UNG put in a jumper and Diamond put in a layup followed by Figgers with another 3-pointer to take a 14-point advantage with 1:43 left in the second quarter and led 46-37 heading into halftime.

Holden took a 10-point lead with a free throw to start the third quarter. UNG out-scored GSW by three points and came within six points. The Lady 'Canes held onto the lead and headed into the final quarter up 67-61.

The Lady 'Canes started the fourth quarter with a seven-point run. Chanice Whitton made a free trow and a layup, Diamond made a layup and Jones topped it off with a layup to lead 74-61 with 8:06 remaining.

The Nighthawks retaliated with an eight point run to come within five points. Holden made a jump shot and UNG went on a six-point run to come within one point and tied the game 78-78 with a 3-pointer.

The game was tied two more times before UNG went on an eight-point run to take and keep the lead. The Nighthawks finished the game with five free throws to take the 93-84 win.

Hall scored 12 points for GSW, Diamond had 11 points and Jones, Figgers and Holden all recorded nine points. Owens picked up seven rebounds to help GSW capture 32 rebounds total.

The Lady Hurricanes are on the road Saturday to play Clayton State at 3:30 p.m.
