Strong Second Quarter Highlights Final Exhibition

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team outscored NCAA Division I opponent South Alabama, 19-9, in the second quarter of their final exhibition game of the preseason, but the second half belonged to USA as GSW lost 73-42 Friday evening at the Mitchell Center.

How It Happened: GSW fell behind 22-7 in the first quarter, but regrouped to control the second period. USA missed all five attempts from beyond the arc in the second, while the Lady Hurricanes connected on 2 of 4 (their only two 3-pointers of the evening), and it was the only quarter where GSW did not lose the rebounding battle.    

Who Stood Out: Tyisha Moore led the Lady Hurricanes with 12 points as she connected on 6 of 13 shot attempts. GSW had 11 players finish with 13+ minutes of action, led by Moore (23) and Shanya Jones (24).  

Up Next: The Lady Hurricanes open the regular season Tuesday at home against Valdosta State. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
