ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. --  The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team went 1-1 this weekend in the Southeast Region Crossover. They won their season opener against Limestone College 86-68 Friday night but failed to beat Lincoln Memorial the following day, losing 94-76.

How It Happened:

Game 1: Georgia Southwestern 86, Limestone College 68

The Lady Canes had four players who scored in double-digits and outscored Limestone, who was favored to win Conference Carolina, in every quarter as Morgan Towells led the squad with 22 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and two blocked shots. Lex Chatman and Kayla Smith both had 15 points and eight rebounds as Smith was second on the team with four steals. Jamesha Samuel was the fourth Lady Cane in double-digits as she scored 13 of the 27 bench points for GSW. 

In the first quarter, GSW was down by six points with 4:31 left in the quarter. Both Chatman and Towells connected with three pointers to tie the game at 10. Limestone took the lead again and was up by one point but Smith's layup with 11 seconds left regained the 21-20 lead at the end of the first quarter and they never trailed afterwards. GSW had a 12-point lead going into halftime, 48-36.

GSW went 28-78 and shot 35.9% from the field while Limestone shot 37.0%, shooting 27-73. Limestone also out rebounded the Lady Canes (55-51) but GSW led with 18 steals, forcing Limestone to commit 25 turnovers on the night. 

Game 2: Georgia Southwestern 76, Lincoln Memorial 94

Day two of the Southeast Region Crossover started rough for the Lady Canes. Their first two points came from free throws by Towells, who also followed up by shooting a three midway through the first quarter as Lincoln led, 11-5. GSW ended the day shooting 38.2% (26-68) from the field and 30.8% (8-26) from the 3-point line. 

GSW scored 24 points in the second quarter and was only down by 10 points (49-39) going into halftime but couldn't get any momentum in the second half while Lincoln continued to drop shots. 

Towells led the squad in day two with 13 points and five rebounds followed by Tamecia Blue, who came off the bench with 12 points and three assists. GSW was out rebounded by 10 boards (48-38) and they also committed more turnovers (14-13) than Lincoln Memorial.

Up Next: The Lady Canes travel to compete in the PBC/SIAC Challenge, Saturday, Nov. 16-17. They will play Albany State at 7 p.m. on day one followed by a 5 p.m. game against Fort Valley State on Nov. 17.
