TUSKEGEE, Ala. -- A five point second quarter by Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team led to a 69-53 loss Wednesday evening on the road against Tuskegee University. 

How It Happened: GSW started slow in the first quarter as they couldn't get on the board at all. After a quick timeout, Kayla Smith put the Lady Canes on board 9-2 with 7:12 left to go in the quarter. With 4:37 left in the quarter, Lex Chatman's sole three of the night tied the score at 12 and they continued to climb, ending the first quarter leading 19-16. 

Things changed in the second quarter as GSW (3-2) went cold. The Lady Canes went 12.5 percent from the field and 14.3 percent from behind the arc, as Morgan Towells hit a lone three followed by a Chatman score to get their only points of the quarter. In a matter of 10 minutes, the Golden Tigers (5-1) scored 16 points in the quarter to push them to a 32-24 halftime lead. 

Another 19-point quarter couldn't do any damage as the Golden Tigers outscored them in the third quarter to keep a safe 10-point lead, 53-43, going into the final quarter. 

The Lady Canes went 22 of 70 from the floor, shooting 31.4 percent while the Golden Tigers went 24 of 47, 51.1 percent. GSW took the advantage as they landed five shots from behind the arc as Tuskegee couldn't make any 3-pointers. GSW forced 21 turnovers tonight but only capitalized with scoring 14 points off turnovers. 

Who Stood Out: Towells and Smith led the way for the Lady Canes with 12 points each followed by Chatman, who ended with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Smith had two rebounds and one assist as Towells followed with one rebound and one steal. 

Up Next: The Lady Canes open up conference play Saturday as they will travel to Aiken, S.C. to play USC Aiken for a 1:30 p.m. tip off.
