Aiken, S.C. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team opened Peach Belt Conference play Saturday this afternoon with a 78-62 loss to USC Aiken. Although the Lady Canes defense forced 26 turnovers, their offense struggled to capitalize. 

How It Happened: A jumpshot by Morgan Towells gave GSW a 7-6 lead with 5:56 remaining in the first quarter but that was the only time GSW led in today's game. USC Aiken quickly took control of the game, going on a 12-2 run to end the first quarter up 18-9. 

With three minutes left in the first half, a Kya Cochran three closed the scoring gap to seven points, 31-24, but the Pacers insisted to increase the lead again, going into halftime up 36-24. 

A three-pointer by Tamia Sapp in the fourth quarter cut the score down to 58-55 as the Lady Canes were clawing to regain the lead but it didn't last long. The Pacers followed up with a 16-1 scoring run before GSW (3-3, 0-1 PBC) called a timeout with 3:35 left in the game. USC Aiken went on to close to game to get their second PBC victory. 

USC Aiken (5-1, 2-0 PBC) shot 53.2 percent from the field as the Lady Canes shot 28.7 percent. GSW went 12-for-15 from the the free throw line, shooting 80 percent as USC Aiken shot 61.5 percent from the line. The Pacers also led with rebounding, grabbing 59 boards today. 

Who Stood Out: Lele Young scored 10 of GSW's 37 bench points along with one steal. Tamecia Blue was second in scoring with eight points followed by Cochran, who finished with seven points, a team high five assists and two steals. 

Pacer's Kwajelin Farrar led her team to victory with 32 points and 16 boards. 

Up Next: The Lady Canes takes a break to finish their last non-conference game of the season and play Valdosta State, Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
