COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Mariya Trimble notched her fifth career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds as she led the Lady Canes to a tough 78-75 on the road victory over Columbus State in Lumpkin Center Wednesday evening. 

That was the Lady Canes second all-time victory over Columbus State, as they haven't beaten them since 2012. 

GSW handed CSU their first home lost of the season. 

How It Happened: With 1:44 left in the game, the score was tied at 71. Morgan Towells was sent to the foul line where she drained both free throws to give GSW a two-point lead. On the following possession, Lele Young blocked a shot that put the ball back in GSW hands again, where Towells drained two more from the line, up 75-71.

With 38 seconds left in the game, the Cougars closed the score to one possession, then forced a turnover and scored again to tie the game at 75 with 20 seconds left in the game. Somehow, GSW evaded getting fouled as Trimble snuck in a quick score to push the lead back up to two points. After a missed shot by the Cougars, Young grabbed the rebound where she was fouled and sent to the line and drained one of two, pushing the game out-of-reach for the Cougars. 

Lex Chatman opened the game with a three-pointer for the Lady Canes as both teams started to exchange scores. A jumpshot by CSU's Anna Stewart pushed the Cougars to a 6-5 lead and that's when the Lady Canes took over. They went on an 9-2 run right into the second quarter, leading 14-8.

Midway through the second quarter, CSU was able to tie the game at 19 points and quickly regained a one point lead, 20-19 with 4:07 left in the half. A Towells free throw was able to tie the game again at 23 points, as that followed to a 9-5 run by GSW to go into halftime up 32-28.

GSW came out of halftime with a head full of steam, pushing their way to a nine point lead, 39-30 with 6:34 left in the quarter. As time went on, CSU defense showed up and prevented GSW from going on anymore scoring runs but Towells was 2-for-2 from behind the arc with 10 points in the third quarter to keep a 54-50 lead going into the fourth quarter. 

GSW (7-6, 4-3 PBC) finished shooting 45 percent from the field and 76 percent from the line while CSU finished shooting 37.8 percent from the field and 59.1 percent from the line. CSU (7-5, 4-4 PBC) took the rebound advantage (44-40) as they also forced 21 turnovers this evening. 

Who Stood Out: Towells finished with 19 points and three assists followed by Chatman, who had 12 points and five rebounds. Jamesha Samuel and Young both accounted for eight points each off the bench, as Young, who stands five feet tall, pulled down eight rebounds. 

Leeaysia Williamson led the Cougars with 15 bench points, followed by Tatum Jarvis and Kaihla Carter, who finished with 11 and 10, respectively.
