AMERICUS, Ga. -- Lex Chatman erupted for 19 second-half points, going 5-for-9 from behind the arc as she helped lead the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team to an 80-65 win over Middle Georgia Tuesday afternoon in the Storm Dome. 

GSW opened up with their fourth consecutive win as they are now 4-0; which is something they haven't accomplished since the 2014 season.

After being up by two points coming out of halftime, GSW ended the game strong with back-to-back 20 plus quarters as they took a demanding lead while the defensive held strong over MGA.

How It Happened: Chatman scored her only points of the first half with a quick layup as GSW took an early 6-0 lead before MGA could get on the board. A three by Aliyah Thomas cut the lead in half but Madison Johnson responded with a three of her own to keep the lead. The Knights responded with back-to-back three's by Thomas and Joy Sadler to tie the game at 11 with 6:37 left in the opening quarter. Both teams went on a two minute scoring drought as the Hurricanes took a commanding six point lead with 2:07 remaining. The Knights cut the lead down as they only trailed, 21-19, going into the second quarter. 

GSW came out and took a commanding six point lead again but MGA refused to let go. With 5:14 left in the half, Breanna Walker attempted to tie the game from the free throw line but only drained one of her free throws as GSW led, 28-27. The Knights defense continued to hold up as they managed to tie the game at 32 with 1:43 left in the half as Thomas drained one from deep. Dominique Jeffery ended the half on a good note, giving GSW a 34-32 lead going into halftime.

MGA (4-2) tied and took their first lead of the game, 36-34, within one minute of the third quarter. They managed to get a six-point lead, 40-34, before Kayla Smith was able to put second-half points on the board. Chatman drained her first three after that, cutting the score down to one possession. Three minutes later, Chatman drained another from deep to tie the game at 44 as a layup by Mariya Trimble gave the Lady Hurricanes a 46-44 lead that led to a MGA timeout with 3:18 left in the third. Johnson started feeling the fire as she drained a three that gave GSW a 10-point lead, 57-47, with 1:42 remaining in the third quarter as GSW went into the final 10 minutes, up by 12 points. 

In the final quarter, Chatman and Johnson combined for 19 points while Tamecia Blue chipped in a quick layup as three players accounted for all 21 points scored. GSW took their largest lead, going up by 16 points two minutes into the final quarter. 

GSW led with shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc but MGA drained one more free throw than GSW to lead with a 76.9 free throw percentage. It was a close rebound battle but MGA took the 39-34 rebound advantage. The Lady Hurricanes forced more turnovers (26) as they also led with 40 bench points.  

Who Stood Out: Chatman led with 21 points followed by Johnson, who finished with 17 points and four rebounds while draining three from deep. Smith worked the paint, getting 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Blue chipped in eight assists while Trimble led with nine boards. 

MGA's Joy Sadler finished with a double-double, getting 25 points while snatching down 12 rebounds. Aliyah Thomas also led with 19 points and seven rebounds for the Knights as both players drained four each from behind the arc.
