SAVANNAH - Julia Wells' third Peach Belt Conference goal of the season proved to be one of few bright spots for the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Armstrong Atlantic as the 18th-ranked Pirates defeated GSW, 7-1.

Armstrong (12-2-2, 8-0 PBC) scored early and often with four goals in the opening 19 minutes to claim a quick 4-0 advantage. The Pirates added a score in the 37th minute to take a 5-0 lead into the halftime break.

GSW broke a seven-year scoring drought against the Pirates early in the second half when Wells pounced on a ball inside the box and beat keeper Maggie Carson for the goal in the 54th minute. It was the first goal for the Lady 'Canes against Armstrong in program history.

Armstrong answered with a score less than two minutes later and sewed up a share of its second-consecutive regular season PBC title with the final goal in the 80th minute.

The Pirates finished with a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Amber Bahri totaled six saves for the Lady 'Canes.

The Blue & Gold (3-13, 0-8 PBC) finish the 2011 season with a pair of home matches, the first coming on Wednesday against Flagler at 3:30 p.m.
