AMERICUS, Ga. -- A pair of goals and a great first half run wasn't enough to out pace the visiting Southern Wesleyan Warriors as they held the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team to six second-half shots to end the game in a 3-3 tie Wednesday evening. This was the programs first non-conference tie in school history. 

The Lady Hurricanes tallied 17 first-half shots, ending the night with a total of 28 shots and 12 shots on goal. Both Eduarda Giusti and Payton Johnson led with six shots each while six other Lady Hurricanes had atleast two shots.

In the 32nd minute, Laura Durán Blanco put GSW on the board first off a corner kick. The ball landed inside the box, where Alison Rugel passed it to Blanco, who scored because of an out of place goalkeeper. Seven minutes later (39'), Rugel picked up her second goal of the season when she stole the ball from a SWU player, dribbled it pass a few defenders and scored from right outside the box for a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors managed to cut the score in half right before halftime as Ashley Romanowski was granted a penalty kick in which she scored into the lower left corner. 

GSW (1-2-1) opened up the second half with a quick goal to extend the lead a few minutes into the game. Johnson dribbled through traffic on the right side of the field and managed to pass the ball to Giusti, who headed it in for her first goal of the season. Off the following kick, the Warriors (2-1-1) quickly answered with a goal of their own. Romanowski picked up her second goal of the day after receiving a long pass from Joy Namyst and quickly scored to make the game 3-2. 

Several minutes later, Namyst, with the help of Romanowski, acquired a goal herself off a corner kick to tie the score at 3-3. GSW had a chance to take the win with four shots coming in the first overtime period but none of them landed on goal. In the second overtime period, GSW's sole shot was saved by the Warriors, who accounted for three shots as none of them fell on goal. 

Rachel Curtis led the Warriors with six shots, followed by Romanowski, who had five shots with three falling on goal. SWU had a total of seven on goal shots. 

Hannah Morrone picked up four saves from in front of the net while the Warriors had a total of nine saves. 

Up Next: GSW hits the road and will travel to Rome, Ga., on Saturday, Sept.21 for a 1:30 p.m. match start against Shorter University.
