Lady Hurricanes Upset in Double-Overtime On Senior Day

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team dropped a tough, double-overtime Peach Belt Conference match to Young Harris College Sunday afternoon by score of 1-0. 

GSW held a pregame ceremony for the four seniors on the team. Seniors Alison Rugel, Michelle Gustavsen, Brenna Mendonca and Kaily Short were celebrated as they are all finishing up their career as a student-athlete on the women's soccer team. 

Payton Johnson led the Lady Hurricanes (3-9-1, 0-6 PBC) with five shots, as three of them landed on goal. Leila Hamed followed with three shots while Eduarda Giusti finished with two. Goalkeeper Hannah Morrone was six minutes shy of getting a shutout as she had seven saves this afternoon.

In the 104th minute, YHC's Eline Sand was able to push one through the net for the go ahead win. She also led the Mountain Lions with eight shots followed by Aimee Durn, who had five shots and one assist. Both players also led the Mountain Lions with two shots on goal each. 

YHC (5-6, 4-2 PBC) outshot GSW, 22-14, while holding a 4-3 shot advantage in overtime. The Mountain Lions also had more shots land on goal, 8, than the Lady Hurricanes, 5.
