Season Comes To A Close For GSW Tennis

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against North Georgia on Saturday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. The Lady Hurricanes fell to UNG 9-0 and the men lost 9-0 to the No. 21 Nighthawks.

It was Senior Day and the season finale for both GSW programs. Seniors Carly Cangelosi, Victoria Ondo and Jake Koonce were honored in a pre-match ceremony.

No. 21 NORTH GEORGIA 9, GSW MEN 0

The Hurricanes best opportunity for a team point came at No. 2 singles where Oliver Marshall lost 6-4, 6-2 to Phillip Mueller.

Steven Blythe took four games off Julian Schoeller in the second set at No. 3 singles.

The Hurricanes complete their season with an overall record of 4-16 and a 0-10 mark in the PBC. North Georgia improved to 14-3, 6-3 in conference play.

NORTH GEORGIA 9, GSW WOMEN 0

GSW's best chance for a team point came at No. 2 doubles where Anneliese Leahy and Jamie Thomas lost 8-6 to Mathilde Baartvedt and Nela Handac.

In singles action, senior Carly Cangelosi had the best showing for the Lady Hurricanes as she wrapped up her collegiate career with a 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 1 to Felicia Baratta.

The Lady Hurricanes complete their season with an overall record of 5-18 and a 0-13 mark in the PBC. North Georgia improved to 12-8, 6-6 in conference play.
