AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University women's cross country team placed two student-athletes on the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office. Senior Connie Lewis and sophomore Alex Exum earned the recognition.

Lewis, a native of Crawfordville, Fla., received Academic Distinction honors for the third consecutive year. She holds a grade point average of 3.679 as a management major. Her best result to this point of the season was a 21st place finish that helped the Lady Hurricanes win the Willie Laster Meet on Sept. 28.

Exum earned Academic Distinction in her first year of eligibility. A native of Ellaville, Ga., Exum holds a grade point average of 3.395 as a biology major. She set a personal 5K record on Oct. 11, when she completed the Apalachee Regional Park course at the Florida State University Cross Country Invitational in 24:02.2. Her best result to this point of the season was a 26th place finish at the Willie Laster Meet on Sept. 28.

The PBC Team of Academic Distinction (formerly the All-Academic Team) is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of Peach Belt student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.

To be eligible for the Team of Academic Distinction, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The PBC Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
