Be a part of the "Madness" on Thursday

The first 500 GSW students attending Wednesday's Midnight Madness celebration in the Storm Dome will have the opportunity to win $10,000 by throwing a paper airplane through an opening in a target placed on the arena floor.

So what is Midnight Madness?  Celebrations takes place each October at campuses around the country marking the start of basketball season. By NCAA rules, schools can officially begin full practice for 2010-11 on Friday, October 15. Why waste a minute? We're kicking off this year's  basketball campaign at GSW at 12:01 a.m. on the 15th as part of the GSW Midnight Madness celebration.

Contests (including sumo), along with performances by the dance team and new cheerleading squad, will fill the 45 minutes leading up to 12 o'clock.  The men's and women's basketball teams will be introduced at midnight; followed by a Hurricane and Lady Hurricane representative from each class teaming up in a brief "spot shot" competition.  The grand finale will be the paper airplane toss.

The public is welcome to attend Midnight Madness.  Admission is free.
